Alfried Längle

Austrian psychiatrist and psychotherapist, Frankl's student and founder of modern existential analysis (GLE).

Who he is

Alfried Längle (born 1951) - Austrian physician, psychotherapist and psychologist, a long-time collaborator of Frankl.

Work

In the 1980s he co-founded the Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (GLE) in Vienna. He developed his own method - modern existential analysis, based on four fundamental motivations (being able to be in the world, liking to live, being oneself, giving meaning).

Relationship with Frankl

At the end of the 1980s Frankl distanced himself from this group, believing that its understanding of the human being and of meaning departed from logotherapy. Today both approaches - Frankl's logotherapy and Längle's existential analysis - develop in parallel.
